Hello Sir/Madam, I had a water damage in my oneplus 5 phone, I replaced the microphone but the other person still cant hear me. Software side is okay, rebooted system many times, cleared cache, etc but not help. Is there any other hardware part in the transmission circuit which could be responsible for voice not being heard?

Hi,

Try using the earphones with the microphone attachment to make or receive a call.

If you still can't be heard when doing this then there is a problem with the voice transmission circuits on the systemboard.

If you can be heard OK then there the is a problem with the phone's internal microphone OR perhaps the voice inlet hole, located on the bottom edge of the phone may be blocked with lint etc,.

To check this possibility, use a strong light and a magnifying glass to inspect the hole to see if it is blocked.

If it is (or even if you can't tell) use a vacuum cleaner to try and clear the blockage. DO NOT use a pin or probe to try and clear the hole, as you may damage the microphone, which is directly behind it.

If it is the internal microphone that is the problem, here is a link to the ifixit OnePlus 5 repair guides which may be of some help.

Here is a link to a supplier of the replacement part. It is not a recommendation to use them. It is shown to give an idea of the cost of the part. There are other suppliers online that may suit you better. Just search for Alcatel One plus 5 microphone part for results.

As it seems to be a relatively newly released model and if the microphone appears to be the problem, verify the purchase date of the phone. Then check the manufacturer's warranty statement that came with the phone. If the warranty period on the phone is still valid, follow the warranty instructions as to what you have to do to make a claim for a manufacturer's warranty repair or replacement.

Hi @Pardeep Singh

Can you be heard OK when using the headphones with the microphone attachment plugged into the headset jack or when using the phone in loudspeaker mode?

If you can't be heard at all then there is a problem on the systemboard affecting the transmission circuit.

If you can be heard when using these two methods, then the problem is still associated with the microphone

Did you clean the phone properly using Isopropyl Alcohol 99%+ to ensure that any and all corrosion was removed e.g. disconnect and clean all flex cable ends and connectors, remove any shield covering components and clean under them as well etc.

Hi Jayeff,

Many thanks for your reply.

Unfortunately, the audio jack cable (also used for charging) is not working as well, I am awaiting a replacement. for that. However, whether I put my phone in normal mode or in the speaker, my voice is not identified.

May I ask you something? While closing the phone once, the thin black antenna cable (connecting daughterboard and motherboard) was once partly damaged (a dent came on it). Could this potentially be the issue? My GPS and wifi are working fine though. The picture of the cable I am talking about can be seen here: https://repairoutlet.co.uk/products/for-...

Also, when you say system board, do you mean motherboard?

Thanks a ton for your support!!

Have a great day.

@Pardeep Singh

That cable is used for the WiFi and BT and you said that they work OK so I don't think that it is the problem.

Did you thoroughly inspect and clean the systemboard with isopropyl alcohol?

It may be that some components on the systemboard have been damaged by the water as the impurities in the water causes paths for the electricity from the battery which are not in the design of the phone.

The image in this link shows what it can look like Electronics Water Damage

You may have to either clean it again or take it to a repair service and hope that they can fix it but sometimes it can't be fixed and the systemboard has to be replaced.

Backup your personal data to the cloud or a PC just in case the board fails even further.

And yes systemboard = motherboard. It's funny because mostly motherboards is the term used in computers and systemboard is used for phones but mostly it means the main board that any other smaller board is connected to. Motherboard and daughterboards They have never used the masculine terms. ;-)

@jayeff Thanks a ton Jaeff!!

That clarifies a lot. I will definitely buy some isopropyl alcohol and clean it as you instructed. Rest all is very clear as you described.

Thank you so much for providing detailed information and all your support!!

Best regards,

Pardeep
