Stiff Touch ID button

Hi

My touch id button feels like there is something stuck underneath it, or on the sides. As in, when I try to press it, I hear a sound like something gives way, and it takes a hard press to do so. Subsequent presses at the same time feel almost normal (soft squishy feel). Even if I get back to it after a minute, its stiff the first time, and almost normal if I want to press it three times in a row.

Any ideas whether the Touch ID button is removable, and clean underneath?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Did you finally got it fixed or did you had any further limitations or damage after. Thanks for sharing your experience.

If you still have warranty coverage or enrolled in AppleCare + then I would recommend you let Apple fix this as it should be covered under warranty.

Its a bit of work to get to the back side of the uppercase where the touch ID is attached. If you damage it you'll kill your system! As its linked to the logic board.

I had the same situation with my MacBook Air. I fixed it by using an air compressor to shoot air under the button and clear any debris. Failing that, you should use warranty/AppleCare if possible
