How can I repair my keyboard?

Block Image

I got a new upper case and everything works great except for this backspace key. I got a new key assembly but the plastic underneath got smashed.

The key works, but I have to press it very hard in order for it to register.

Is there a way I can fix this without buying a new upper case?

Did you fix it? I have the same issue…

@Marie Antoine - This person had junk inside the keyboard and the scissor mechanism is broken which is why David needed to replace the full uppercase.

If you only popped off the keycap then you can often snap it back on or you may need a new scissor mechanism as well. Review this web site Keycaps for the 2012 to 2015 Retina MacBook Pro ranges Once you know which set you have J or K click on it to dig deeper into the needed part.

It looks like you tried to glue it. The bail clips appear to be broken off (plastic in this series).

Other than using an external keyboard I see no solution other than replacing the uppercase, or if you're up to it replacing the keyboard alone (this is not easy!)

I didn’t try to glue it. It was just cleaned out.

Do I have to remove the battery when replacing the keyboard?

Along the left edge is a bit of glue sticking out. And it looks like white particles littering the inside.
