Unfortunately, all iPod Classics use the Model Number A1238. Luckily, all of the repairs on these devices are the same and can be found on the iPod Classic Repair Page.
The original Classics featured an 80 GB "thin" verion, and a 160 GB "thick" version.
The next generation offered just an 120 GB "thin" version.
Most recently, the new generation offers just an 160 GB "thin" version.
If you have an 80 or 120 GB Classic, buy parts for the "thin" Classic. If you have an 160 GB Classic and are unsure of if you have the "thin" or "thick," refer here for a way to tell.
According to iFixit, Model A1238 corresponds only to "iPod Classic", this may be because there has only been one generation or because all the generations use the same parts.
Hopefully this can help you

I typed my ipod's serial number into a website that identifies which generation it is and it said mine is Apple iPod classic (Late 2008/7th Gen) but Wikipedia says there are only 6 generations of the ipod classic. Can anybody please explain this to me, it would be much appreciated. Thanks James

@jameslikeswii That's because people call it the 7th gen, but it's only a late gen of the 6th. There's just little differences.
