does the digitizer cable supply the intelligence for the touch screen?

I have an IPAD Air 1st generation and I cut the inlet of the touch screen feed at the glass when trying to replace the battery. Is this what is called the digitizer cable? Anyway is there any way to repair?

Just edit your original question and press the picture/landscape button available. Digitizer screen of iPad Air has got two connectors to the logic board, plus the small one for the home button. If you cut one of those cables connecting the board to the digitizer there's no possibility to repair it but it's not a great damage, replacement is not that expensive.

If you cut something else please post a picture to help evaluate what the problem might be.

@chets having seen the picture you posted I can now confirm you need a new digitizer, no big harm done after all.
