New battery gives error message

Hi everyone,

Recently I installed a new battery of Ifixit in my iPhone 6S. On my iPhone runs the IOS public beta 11.3.5. (number: 15e5211a) In this beta the battery 'maximum capacity' and 'peak performance' can be read out via 'settings'> battery> battery condition.

My old battery gave 76% at 'maximumcapacity'. However, the ifixit battery gives a error message an indicates a '-' value. At 'peak performance' shows the message: 'the iPhone can not determine the peak performance; a certified Apple service provider can repair the battery '. At the setting 'Batterycondition' it reads: 'Repair'

When I installed the new battery I calibrated it. I also tested the new battery immediately after installation and it has the maximum capacity and zero cycles, so no problems. Ifixit suggested a ‘hard reset’ and/or a software restore. Both suggestions I followed but no results.

Has someone indentified this problem and is it possible that Apple / IOS does not accept a non-original battery or could there be an other problem?

Thanks everyone

This could just be an iOS beta issue. To be certain, use a battery utility, such as coconutBattery (for Mac) or 3uTools (for Windows). It will tell you what the health of the battery is.

If these tools don't communicate with the battery, there may be an issue with the gas gauge line, either in the battery or on the logic board. There is a tiny component right above the battery connector (length-wise), the second one from the right. If it got pried off the board, it will not allow the battery to communicate the health status to the CPU.

Try the other utilities anyway, I never had great success with iBackupBot. If the battery reads fine, then it's an iOS beta issue.

Hi Minho,

I installed 3U and it read the battery. The capacity was 1808 mAh and the cycles 5. The communication was alright so I suppose it is a beta issue. I will wait for the official release. Thanks

Weird how you got different cycle counts...

The 0 cycle count was when I installed the new battery a few days ago; the 5 cycle count was when I tested it right now. I am a few days further, so that is correct

Hi Minho,

Thanks for your reply and advice. As I mentioned in my post I tested the battery with a battery utility (iBackupBot) and the health of the battery was fine; 0 cycles, and a fullchargecapacity of 1800 mAh.

So the utility communicates with the battery. Could it be that the new battery has a higher capacity at the moment then it has to be as the designCapacity of the original iphone 6S which is only 1715 mAh ?
