GE xl44 button control

Great, thank You first. A gexl44 oven. The control board wb27t10083 does not respond to the bake or up/down arrows. No error codes. Unplugged 5 wire plug in contact on the back of the control board, cleaned and no change. Feels like the three buttons bake, arrow up and arrow down have just been over pushed in operation. Unsure if the contact to the responding part of the button is happening.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

sp2do it does sound like a bad control board. Take a further look at the manual for the oven and see if you can troubleshoot it accordingly. ManualsLib - Makes it easy to find manuals online! You can check the button connectors etc. with a multimeter.

Hi, thank for your suggestion. When having looked at the manual, it seemed to relate all problems to a particular error code. I have no error codes. Your suggestion of button check with the meter, will that confirm the buttons ‘bake’, ‘arrow up’ and ‘arrow down’ contact? They may have been pushed so much ( tend to be used the most) that there is no longer contact. The question would then be how can the contact be revived.

Hi,

If the button 'contacts' are like the contacts in some remote control units, i.e. conductive material on the underside of the button, 'bridges' across conductive tracks on pcb when operated creating circuit then there are two possibilities for a repair.

1. Clean the contact surfaces (both on button and pcb) with a Q-Tip moistened with IPA 90%+ (Isopropyl Alcohol - available at most pharmacies) and then check it with the meter.

2. If the contact material on the underside of the button has been worn away with use over time then you could try a smear of conductive glue on the contact face to see if this works. I've had a 80% success rate reviving remote control unit buttons using this method. The other 20% for some unknown reason the glue doesn't seem to stick after a short time in use.
