user screen fades away..goes back to regular screen with date and time

boots ups fine, charges fine, however when booting up it shows the user for very short period of time. Certainly not long enough to login or even to tap on the user. I have tried restarting. I have tried with and without keyboard. The user fades away, leaving the regular windows screen with the date and time displayed. The only other info it gives is shows a down arrow to swipe to shut it down. This item was used no more than 5 times so I would really appreciate some assistance. Thanks
