Could my speed control on my 48 volt club car be bad?

I have a 2008 club car that will go about 50 yards and then just stop. As soon as I let off the gas pedal and then press the gas pedal again, the cart starts moving again and travels another 50 yards. If its not the speed control what else could it be?
