Can the A5 processor be used in the iPad 1?

I would like to know if I could transplant the A5 processor for use in the iPad 1? Maybe I would need to move the RAM also? Any answer would help!

Chris,

The simple answer is no. The processor, RAM and pretty much everything else on the iPad is all attached to the mainboard... with no real way to remove them.

You won't be able to swap parts from either generation to the other. Sorry.

When Josh says attached, he means soldered whereas you seem to be implying that you are hoping the A5 and A4 chips are socketed and therefore interchangeable, but they are not.

When you compare the teardowns of iPad1 and iPad2 on this site then you'll realise that if you want iPad2 performance - buy an iPad2. These devices are not designed to be upgradeable.
