If use it while charging it gets hot.

I have the same problem but with the mini 2. I found that up until recently if you left it alone while charging it’d stay at a normal temperature. If you use it while charging it gets hot.

Nathan Magaw that is because the power demand from your ipad goes up when you are using it.

your battery could be coming close to fail and your charger is trying to keep up with the demand. Of course it could also be you charger. Start with that first since it will be easier.
