How to remove blacklist?

A relative of mine recently purchased an iPhone 7 (AT&T) online. Upon the arrival of the "not blacklisted/stolen" phone, they later found out that it was reported stolen by what I can only assume was the seller in this case. So how does one actually go about removing the blacklisted/stolen status off this phone?

Im not 100% sure, but I'm pretty darn sure its impossible to remove blacklist without contacting the original owner.

I purchsed a brand new sealed iphone 7 in March 2017 and in April 2018 i began having intermitant issues with making an receiving calls and sending and receiving texts. i contacted EE who told me my phone was blacklisted!! i have never reported it stolen or lost so how has this happened and what do i do now?

Ive tried contacting the company i purchased from, they have an ebay store, but im not getting anywhere. I worry when im out in my car now in case i break down etc i cant ring anyone.

@caravan1989 unfortunately if you bought it from ebay and you were not the original owner, there's nothing you really can do. United States credit cards have a 6 month charge back time, and since its been over a year neither the credit card nor PayPal can do anything now. I suggest searching for a new phone and check the imei as soon as you get the phone next time.

Chosen Solution

If the blacklist is via IMEI, there is no way to remove a blacklist.

I would return this phone to the seller ASAP.

If you paid cash, then you are unfortunately out of luck. If you used a credit card or personal check, call the credit card company or the bank and report fraud.
