After using this laptop for school for over 3 months now, I've realised that the battery life is...shoddy. I've been wondering if there's a way for me to upgrade the battery to something more capable.

Unfortunately, the laptop is designed to be as thin and as portable as possible.
The best solution is to get a laptop power bank (external battery).
