Seiki LE-55GB2 standby mode issue

Good day,

Recently I acquired a Seiki LE-55GB2 HD television great picture and great sound no issues with the quality whatsoever. However it has a very strange habit of shutting off video and sound at the same time at the oddest times. The power button stays illuminated and once I power it down, I can wait about 30-45 seconds and it will power back up. It may repeat this process every 10 min or so or it may work for over a day before this issue happens again. It is the oddest thing.

I popped the back off and checked to see if any connections were loose or if capacitors were bulging but nothing jumped out at me. I have also performed the factory reset in the menu functions and performed the power reset. I tried different inputs to see if the hdmi was the problem but the problem still persists on each port.

On a different site someone suggested I replace the EEPROM on the main board to correct the issue. I just wanted to get a second opinion before committing. I haven't been able to find out much info on this television, seiki has a rep and it's no surprise this one is giving me these issues but like I said the picture is amazing and so is the sound.

I found the tv on the curb so if I get a free tv with a great pic and sound for a minor repair fee DIY I am good. I am a well versed technician with computers, but I have not performed many diagnostics on televisions.

any help or suggestions would be very appreciated.

It is separate. I posted the pics. The power board is the white one.

Hi @wintersoldier12 ,

There is a "burn' mark (or at least a very hot mark) visible half way down on the rightside transformer connections on the power board as viewed in pic (big black component with 2 yellow tape stripes), so something is drawing a lot of current and overheats and perhaps this is why it shuts down and then has to "cool" before it can start again

Then again it may be alright and it just runs hot but I wouldn't think so as replacement "used" boards do not show the same. Unless they just insert a "generic' pic that is ;-)

Testing and fixing the board (if this is where the problem is) without a schematic would be difficult as the values of the components may not be known etc.

Searching online using the board number HTX P1420402A gives results for boards BUT at between $60-$100 it may be too expensive a gamble if it is not the problem, unless the seller has a good return policy.

@wintersoldier12 it could be the EEPROM but it does not sound like a typical EEPROM issue. Sounds more like a main board issue since you are losing both sound and video. Post some images of your boards with your question so e can see what you see. Include a set of pictures that show the position of all the boards within your TV. Use this guide Adding images to an existing question for that.

Update (02/01/2018)

@wintersoldier12 looks like your power board has issues with the transformer (check discoloration on board) as well as on the cold side. Looks like it had the caps replaced before.

Post some images of the underside of the board.

Hi @wintersoldier12 ,

Does it have a separate power board or is the power section integrated into the mainboard?

If it has a separate power board post some close up pictures of it as well.
