Hi,

Here is an image which shows how to connect an optical cable between the TV and the RCA amp, if it has an optical input that is. You didn't give the model number of the amp.

If you wish to mute the audio from the TV speakers when you have connected the TV to the amp go to Menu > Sound > TV speakerand select Off. If you leave it set to On you will have audio from both the TV speakers and the amp.
