Do I need A New Graphics Card?

I have an Acer Aspire r5-471T. I think my graphics card may have messed up. My screen won't turn on but the led indicators do. I tried the battery reset and that did not help. I know my model has integrated graphics (intel 520) but I don't know how to fix this problem.

Hi @saulsadiq12 ,

Do you get the "Acer splash screen' on startup before Windows starts to load?

Try connecting an external monitor and check if its display is OK

Try starting in 'safe mode' and see if the screen works.

What OS is installed in the laptop?

No splash screen. Nothing turns on. Just the LED lights at the bottom right.

How do I start it in Safe Mode?

Windows 10

Hi @saulsadiq12 ,

Try an external monitor first. You need a screen to be able to navigate to safe mode.

The safe mode suggestion was if you got the splash screen OK but not the Windows screen, in case it was a driver issue.

I tried an external monitor and nothing came up.

Hi @saulsadiq12 ,

If nothing shows on the external monitor then you have a problem with the motherboard.

Assuming that there are no "beeps" when you start the laptop, the BIOS is detecting the GPU (Graphics Processor Unit) OK but it has no output.

Given the cost of a replacement motherboard it might be advisable to search for a new equivalent laptop.

Try connecting the laptop to an external monitor. If everything looks ok, it means you need to get the screen replaced.

But if it doesn't look okay, do I need a new motherboard? If so, I found for $390

by

You realize for $390, you can get a new laptop right?

by

Not a good one though.

Hi @avanteguarde ,

10!!! - are you in the used laptop/ phone/ computer repair retail business then?

If not I thought that I had a problem with collecting / repairing / keeping / not throwing away "stuff" ;-)

Cheers
