What did u do??? I'm having the same issue

by

This is insane: the Epson XP-830, no matter what you , when you go to print Avery labels it always defaults to the cd/dvd mode, glossy photo paper. Why is this so difficult to change. It should be just a matter of selecting auto cassette tray/ plane white paper BUT IT’S NOT!! I have poured over ton’s of web verbiage and no one has a simple answer, of what should be so straightforward. I am ready to throw the Epson in the gutter and go back to H/P.

Anyone out there with a simple straight forward answer?

by

On my EPSON L850 (PHOTO PRINTER) Whenever I print labels…a message pops up that the output tray is in paper mode and ask me to change it on CD /DVD printing mode.

I don't know how to solve this issue??

Please help…

Thank

Same problem here. Any help????

Same problem on XP6000. Trying to print labels on A4 label sheet and keep getting asked to insert CD. Did all suggestions on document file and on printer many times - but keeps wanting to print on CD. It's maddening.

Chosen Solution

Your printer can print CD/DVD's Which is really cool! But clearly you don't want to print your salsa recipe on the disk!

Basically, you'll need to alter the paper choice to A4 or what ever you want to print. Go to 'File' > 'Page Setup' make sure you've selected the correct printer 'Format For' and the correct paper under 'Page Size' for your app.

This was great and that worked perfect I changed it from page setup and it worked. I found the page setup under the print function. I changed it to print from auto select and it stopped trying to print it to the CD/DVD. Thank you so much.

Yesssssss! Thank you! I print labels about once a year. EVERY year I have this problem, and even though I eventually figured it out in a previous year, I forget the 'fix' in the following year. So annoying! Now I will print this page and keep it with my labels for easy reference NEXT year! When will Epson fix this ridiculous issue?

by

This solution got me closest to the source of the issue.

In my case, I setup a primary mail merge file for address labels with MS Word at home.

My default printer is an HP 8620. I then took that Word doc to a friends (using a USB flash drive) to print labels for an event. His printer is an Epson XP-830. In MS Word,

I went to Layout tab > Page Setup > Paper tab. Sure enough, the paper source was set to CD/DVD. I changed the Paper source to Default Tray (Printer Auto Select) and then selected Whole document for the Apply To dropdown menu.

This corrected the issue. I believe that MS Word stores printer information within the document. I think somehow when the document was converted from the HP printer to the Epson, the CD/DVD paper source was erroneously selected.

Very strange situation! Thanks, @danj, for getting my on the right track to solve this weird issue!

Thank you, Steve Wilson. I have now resolved my issue with XP-960 which decided it wanted to print from a CD this morning. What fun!

by

Thank you so much! Your solution worked perfectly! I was trying to print labels and my printer almost ended out the window in the snow! :) My printer thanks you for saving it from that unfortunate fate!

I had this problem with some label template I got from several different sources (avery was one)

Here is my solution. Even though in the printer settings said paper type was plain paper, I found that if I went into the document layout, margins, custom margins, then paper, the paper source there was set to cd/dvd tray on the first page and other pages settings. So once I changed that to cassette 2 on first page and other page, then hit OK, I could then print the page correctly.

Brilliant, it works

Linwood Whitaker's suggestion was what worked for me. You have to go into the layout on the labels document as he said, not on the print menu. Works like a charm. I'm printing out the suggestion and keeping it with my labels for next year!

by

You're the man!!!

by

Oh my gosh, I've struggled with this label problem for a long time. Thank you Linwood, it was such an easy fix to a very frustrating problem.

by

Thank you so much Linwood! This was driving me mad, and I was seriously considering junking the printer. Who would think you'd have to dig so deep to solve this - so glad you did!!!

Go to under Mailings - Labels - Options. In the upper left, you can choose the paper tray. You have to do this BEFORE you run the page of labels or it won’t work.

Good luck!

Works perfectly in Office365 Word . . type your label in Word etc. then Mailings - Labels - Options. In the very upper left, you can choose the paper tray. You have to do this BEFORE you run the label(s) print

It’s a Word issue more than the printer it seems!

FINALLY....this fix worked, I have been struggling with this problem for a couple of years now. Thank heavens I have an HP that does this matter of factually as back up. Thanks.

As a last resort, I printed my labels to a PDF file. Then I was able to print the PDF file just fine. The problem is between Word and the Epson printer.

This was the only thing that worked for me. I can't print a Word doc - I must save it as a PDF first. This is on my Epson XP-7100.

I opened my original document, went to "mailings" > "labels">"options". Then I selected the proper "Item Number" and CHANGED "Tray" from CD to "Default Tray 2". Then I hit "OK" taking me back to the original "Labels" window where I hit "New Document". Then I copied my old document (addresses) into the new document and all was well.

Thanks everyone for the tips.

Jeff Silver: Your solution worked. for me printing envelopes on my XP-7100. A lot of steps that shouldn't be necessary but a successful print none the less. Thank you for sharing your solution.

With the XP-900 insert the label sheet into the bottom tray - open your Word - label document and when you go to print go into Page Setup - under Paper it will show CD tray, change to Default tray (auto) if after pressing Ok you get Margins Set Outside Printable Area select fix. Then print your label, it worked for me.

What a major PITA this has been. But I was finally able to work this out by finding the right setting in the Page Set Up options in MS-Word..

Go to page layout.

Select Size

Choose More Paper Sizes (It’s a the bottom of the popup menu.)

The next menu is not one I had ever noticed or seen before. Here you can select the tray your Index cards or envelopes are in, i.e. Cassette 1

I tried to paste the image of the menu so you could visualize it here. Alas I couldn’t.

I found 2 places in Microsoft Word Home edition 2010 to address this problem and I believe they have both been mentioned here, but here they both are.

1: Select the page layout tab, find page setup (I found it in the Margins, Orientation section) at the bottom of that section, click the box next to page setup and click on the Paper tab. For my Epson XP-960 I selected Cassette-2 for the paper source in the First page and Other pages windows.

2: Select the File tab and select print. When the print options come up at the very bottom is Page Setup. Select that and click on the Paper tab. For my Epson XP-960 I selected Cassette-2 for the paper source in the First page and Other pages windows. The weird thing here is that changing the paper source in the Printer Properties menu does not fix the problem, you must go through the Page Setup menu to correct the problem.

I found that after performing the first solution and then saving the document it retained the setting the next time I opened it. I am not sure if that is true of the second solution.

My son designs ifixit tool kits. He rocks!!

My Canon TS8300 all of a sudden decided it wanted to print CDs. It kept asking me to remover the page in the document holder and push it in. I went nuts trying to figure out what it was, turns out the document I was trying to print was a PDF and for some reason it sent the printer a command to set up for CDs. I sent a word document to it and that cleared the problem. It even prints the PDFs OK now. Go figure.

Surprise easy fix! I have an Epson XP 7100 printer. BUT, when you start the label making process with a mail merge, on the page where you select which labels you want, there is a field that says Tray: and a drop-down menu which is automatically set to CD / DVD. Change it to cassette 2 and your problem is solved.
