Fixing Sticky or Crunchy Keys?

The keys on the left side of my Mid-2015 MacBook Pro have gotten to where they stick or make an odd crunching sound when pressed. It doesn't happen consistently and there doesn't seem to be a pattern to it. The keys work just fine, but I'd like to get it taken care of before passing the machine on to a friend when I do an upgrade in a few months.

Is there something I can do at home to clean/fix this issue?

As to WHY, I've got suspicions that someone spilled something on it, but I legit don't know who or when it happened

It is highly recommended to replace the key board. On some models you can pop out the individual keys, but it is very hard and risky as to the plastic clips can or will break if not done carefully. If you are not very tech savvy, i highly recommend to take it to a professional to have the keyboard replaced as this requires nearly a complete dissemble of the device/mac.
