hello Lucy, Im john it seems that the back-light is failing on you and needs to be replaced now the easiest and fastest way to repair it is to replace the LCD screen do to the back-light is built into the LCD as one. If you enjoy repairing thing repair the LCD by its self and have a spare. If you have any question feel free to contact me.
