Second internal hard drive disappears
Replaced the optical with a second sdd that initially is seen and I can work with it but after a time it disappears only to return when I re-boot. Any idea what to troubleshoot?
Is this a good question?

You'll need to check if the system is able to support the drive. Some MacBook Pro's have a timing issue with the optical drives SATA port as Apple only designed it to support the slower SATA II (3.0 Gb/s) optical drive. Review the notes section for your exact model here: OWC Data Doubler Keep in mind it makes no difference who's carrier you use as the issue is within the system its self.

It is a laptop of a friend on which I replaced the optical drive with a SSD, I believe it was a Samsung 1 tb but don't have the info on the other which was a standard spinning hdd which came with it, possibly a 320 gb.

Is your second harddrive set-up correctly?
Also did you make sure everything was connected properly?

Yes, it was setup as a second storage drive and has been working fine, just exhibits this strange behavior now.
