Why can my laptop power my iPod but not recognize it?

So I replaced the battery on my ipod and it has come to life-only when plugged in. I can go through the ipod see and listen to all my music. But why doesn't my laptop recognize my ipod. It will power it but it doesn't recognize it. It did for a brief moment with the new battery then nothing. I was hoping to pull off all the music.

TIA!

Answer this question I have this problem too

Well, assuming it's Apple have you tried with iTunes?

If it doesn't work after then, I think there's most likely a problem with permissions of your computer OR iPod that prevents you from seeing or transferring files.

And a tip: If it doesn't work on your computer try another computer, it might be just your computer in that case

Well last night I tried a different 30 pin cable and it connected to my laptop for a brief moment. In itunes I got a warning that the ipod was corrupted and needed to be restored. I tried using Wondershares trans manager to save the files but it would not connect to my ipod-it did try but wouldn't connect.

But have you actually tried to restore?
