I would also like to add a larger HD to my computer as I only have about 5gb of free space. What order of steps should I follow? Clone my existing data to an external HD, install new HD, then Snow Leopard, then use Migration Assistant? What about my iTunes account and authorizing/deauthorizing the computer and keeping all my playlists intact?

First Apple requires 10 GB of free hard drive space, so it's trash time. You'll need 2 GBs of RAM. Heres what Apple says: Upgrading from Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger.
If your Intel-based Mac is running Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger, purchase the Mac Box Set, which is a single, affordable package that includes Mac OS X v10.6.3 Snow Leopard; iLife, with the latest versions of iPhoto, iMovie, GarageBand, iWeb, and iDVD; and iWork, Apple’s productivity suite for home and office including Pages, Numbers, and Keynote.
But in actuality Snow leopard will install straight from the $29.00 10.6.3 disk:
If you have an external drive just drop the new hard drive in it, format it and use SuperDuper to clone it. Then install the new hard drive. Your iTunes may or may not be fine.
