Why is my subwoofer randomly hitting?

Recently my car's subwoofer system would cut out and make a random fast thumping noise. It's quite loud and I immediately would turn off my head unit fearing it would blow my sub. I replaced the RCA cords, and checked all of the wiring and it all seems OK. I've searched online and the only similar problem is the thumping is similar to a heartbeat, which isn't the case.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Hi,

When you say cut out, could it be a loss of power rather than a loss of signal?

This might explain the thumping sound if there was a loose connection somewhere in the power supply to the unit (or in the unit itself) so that there is intermittent power being supplied causing the unit to turn on, off, on etc with a thump.

Just a thought.
