Not loading saved games

My wife has been playing on her Gameboy color for a while and it says that it saved her game, however, after turning it off and back on again it won't load her game. Do I need to replace the motherboard?

Options

Gameboy Colour save files are stored on the Cartridge itself. the problem is with the game cartrige, not the device. replace the game

Thank you Scott. I was able to replace the battery in the module and it works great now. I just need to do it to her other games now. Thank you again.
