What exactly is broken on my iPhone?

I dropped my iPhone 6 over this past summer, and it was as expected. The glass cracked, and eventually the LCD and digitizer stopped working. I got the phone repaired, bought a tempered glass case, and things were fine.

Today, my phone fell out of my hands and now half of my screen is black. However, unlike most other people that I've seen, that side of my screen is still responsive and working like 'normal'. I can use the complete keyboard, and any apps on that side of the screen. I just can't see anything.

I rebooted the phone and got a notification that Touch ID also no longer works on my phone. (Though I don't really care, to be fair.) This leads me to believe that maybe a cable just got knocked out of place instead of things being completely broken? (Though that's probably just wishful thinking.)

There are no locations nearby me that I can get the phone repaired this time, so I'm looking for what I can try doing to repair this problem myself.

Thank you for your time and any help you can provide!

Renee,

The first step is to open your phone and check connections as you mentioned! Make sure to buy a good toolkit and unplug that battery before you reset connectors!

Hi there!

There are a few possible problems with this device after a fall.

1) Loose connections. Not usually as likely as the nex possibility, but deffinitely the least expensive to fix. This usually only occurs after screen replacements, when the grounding panel isnt screwed back on to the board after replacement like it is supposed to be.

2) It could simply be that the screen got damaged again. The screen damage can show symptoms on multiple layers of the scree.

a) The Glass. Cracks and such

b) the Digitizer, or Touch panel. Touch sensitivity failure

or c) the LCD. This is image failures.

any one, or combination, of these could be caused by a damaged screen

3) Board failure. The least common of the damage, but still possible, if imaging failures from damage to the board itself. This is unrepairable at a home level, and required expert skillsets in microsoldering.

I hope this helped you in what you needed.
