Replacing the hard drive on a iBook g4 12" 30gb laptop

Is there any thing i have to do to the hard drive after replacing the old one whether the newly installed hard drive is new or used? thanks if you can help!!!!

Sorry if i caused some confusion by not sticking to one question.

i have not installed another hard drive yet! i just wanted to know ahead of time what i was supposed to do if and when i decide to install another hard drive. my laptop ibook g4 has a light blue screen after i power on and the gear wheel just spins and spins and the hard drive makes a loud humming noise and never boots up so it seems as though

the hard drive might need to be replaced. thank you!!!
