2012 Jeep Liberty vents smell

2012 Jeep Liberty vents smell like anti freeze when heaters on only!

No Leaks, just flushed, new thermostat, no water inside, getting plenty heat.

Any ideas?

Hi Lee, that usually is a sign that the heater core is leaking and requires a replacement. In order to do that the dash needs to be pulled and is a pretty labor intensive job.

Blake, If that was the case I would see an indication of the leak, dripping and there is none at all and no pressure drop.

in addition there is no leaking inside as is typical when heater core is compomised.

I am aware that heater cores are quite difficult on the Jeep Libertys and hope this is not the case!

It could be that the leak is super small and possibly only happening at operating temperature. Do you happen to have any oily residue on the inside of the windshield?

Blake, never got back to you, just wanted to say thanks for the Information, it was a pin hole leak as you mentioned.

My mechanic told me that the vents get mildew in them. He suggested spraying Lysol into the intake vents, which are on the outside, just under the windshield wipers.

I just tried that and put on the ventilation system. Not sure if it worked yet.....
