iPod no longer shows up in iTunes and can not sync.

Hello,

When I plug my 160gb iPod into my computer (Windows 7, 64 bit) iTunes locks up (if I am playing a podcast or listening to music, the audio will continue to play, but none of the buttons will be usable.).

When I disconnect my iPod I get the following error message.

"The ipod "Tony's iPod" cannot be synced. The required folder cannot be found"

I have seen this in the past, but when it has happened, I have still been able to access the iPod in iTunes.

I have had to restore my iPod in the past when errors have occurred, but unfortunately with this error and the way it is affecting itunes, I cant bring up the ipod options (after selecting the ipod under devices).

I have checked the ipod for errors, and initially windows found some, and fixed them, but now it does not find any errors.

I have been searching for 2 hours and have had absolutely no luck at all.

If any one can help, or attempt to help, I would be extremely great full.

Thank you,

Tony

Have you tried putting it into disc mode (center and play held after a reset, center and menu) - that way errors on the disc could be checked by way of Disc Manager in Windows. It would also allow the drive to be formatted if necessary.

You could also goto My Computer and find the iPod_Control folder (may be hidden and read only if it is change it).

Right click on the iPod drive and select Properties-->Tools-->Error checking-->Automatically fix file system errors-->Start.

Once it's done, eject your iPod and reconnect it then try restoring from iTunes if needed.

Hi Neil,

I have tried putting it into disc mode, but unfortunately that only allows me to access the ipod via My Computer screen.

I have done the error check, disconnect and then reconnect, and still iTunes does not recognize the iPod.

Update for today. Now iTunes doesnt even recognize my iPod when I disconnect it.

Do you or anyone else know if there is a manual way to restore without using iTunes?

Thank you again! :)

Tony
