Is my computer alright even though Apple says its broken? Water damage

Block Image

]Hey!

Left the computer at the repair shop once I detected that the keyboard was not working as normal. Then I felt some water on the display. They wanted to replace the whole computer and I declined their repair proposal. Now I got the computer back and it seems to work. What’s the next step to test if I should keep the computer or just throw it away? Don’t want to burn my house down or get an electric shock.

I am a bit tech savvy but not so used to fixing stuff.

Thank you

Hello

Opened it up and it looks okay as what I can see, quite dusty but nothing that stands out. Please help, what’s the next step? How can i add pictures?

Hi!

Even if you computer seems to work fine now, later on you might have problems because of that water you spilled on it. You won't get any electric shocks from it, nor will it burn the house down, so don't worry.

I would simply open it up, look for any sorts of water corrosion, damage (usually white spots) on the board and on other components and clean them up with isopropyl alcohol. Here's how to get to the logic board of your laptop: MacBook Pro 13" Retina Display Early 2015 Logic Board Replacement

What tools will I need?

Started it and it runs fine, bit slow start so I did the hardware diagnostic test and no errors there. I opened video in 4k and the CPU went close to 100 C wtf?

Hi!

The tools you will need are listed if you press the start guide button on my answer.

About the other thing, you definitely need to open it up.

Yes but then what?

You need to get that motherboard in a ultrasonic cleaner with a proper ultrasonic cleaning solution made for electronics as soon as possible. It may be fine now but once corrosion sets in you will need motherboard repair.

After a cleaning it should be good to go. No risk of burning your house down or anything so don't worry.

100C is a little warm but not unusual for that board.

Where can I get help with cleaning the motherboard with a ultrasonic cleaner? So if I don't do that I am screwed? Is there anything else to pay attention to? Can anything else be broken?

by

Well you'd have to either buy a cleaner or send it to someone that has one. If you want you can take the board out and put it in 91% Isopropyl alcohol and get a soft toothbrush and throughly clean it. It should be fine then.

by

Also, Your not screwed. If it worked before it can almost always be fixed ;)

How do you know corrosion will set in? Its all dried out. Its been almost a month since the damage occurred? I am going to meet a genius at a apple certified store again to see what they have to say.

Left it at another repair shop again....
