Backlight works at half brightness

i have a 3Gs iphone and i bought a new assembly installed it with power off and to my suprise the lights on the lcd didnt work did a restore no help , but if i turn the brightness down below half the phone works fine would this be a coil or the LCD as others have this issue, to me if it were the coil the light wouldnt be on at all but it works below half...any one know what the reasoning is ....thank you kindly

Options

It could be the ambient light sensor, or LCD. I believe you're right about the coil, its an all or nothing deal.

I'd open it up and redo all the connections... Sometimes you think they're on right but it just needs a little more pressure.. Feels like a pop!
