iPhone 6s screen is black but is powered on

I've replaced the screen in an iPhone 6s and connected it all back up but all there is is a black screen. I know there is power in the phone as it vibrates and every time you turn the phone in the screen flashes and shows the lock screen then goes black again. Not sure what to do as I've tried different screen disconnecting the battery, tried only connecting the screen cable and can not seem to do a reset as it goes in to dfu mode but obviously can not get it out as phone is black. Help would be much appreciated.

Did you disconnect the battery prior to removing and installing the screen? Failure to do so can result in a blown backlight circuit, which is exactly what this problem sounds like. If neither the replacement or original screen work, then you will need to find a micro-soldering repair shop to fix your problem.

Yes the battery was disconnected, could the back light still be blown even if the screen flickers and shows a full light. What I can't quite understand is why the screen lights up for a very brief second when being plugged in to charge and then goes black again,

Certainly possible. The circuit may only be able to supply sufficient current for a brief moment before failing.
