Touch ID not working following Screen Replacement

Hi guys,

I've had a complete nightmare and offered to fix a friends phone (I've fixed loads before) and ended up with her Touch ID sensor not working! It turns out the phone was only 9 months old so I've completely ruined her warranty and left her with no Touch ID.

After replacing the screen, I found the tiny little metal bit that is on the screw of the ribbon cable for the home button. It kind of sits on the screw and doesn't normally come off, hence why I didn't realise it had. Would this be a reason that the Touch ID wouldn't work or is it irrelevant? Does anyone have any other ideas what might have gone wrong with it and any ideas how I might go about fixing it?

Please please please any help is appreciated!

Thank you so much

You probably accidentally tore the flex cable on the Home Button. It happens...

You can't repair the Touch ID so your best bet is to bring the phone to Apple for a screen replacement. They will replace the Home button as well. As long as the housing is in good condition and the inside of the phone doesn't have any signs of damage or water, they will fix it.

Even though I have replaced the screen and it's now a different screen? Does that not void the warranty??

Thanks for your answer

If you are worried about warranty, you can put an original screen back on cracked or not and get the phone fixed by apple, just don't mention that you tried to change the screen or it's opened before.

Usually we just say it suddenly stopped working one day.

Thanks guys, I took it in yesterday and was just honest about the problem for fear of putting the old cracked screen in and damaging anything anymore, £130 bill but better than buying a new phone I guess, thanks again
