Why is my laptop overheating so much?

My laptop runs very hot and keeps overheating.

Some of the 17r4s came out with a bad thermal paste job. You probably need to repaste the cpu (and gpu).

Yes - I have just recently applied new paste to mine and it is cooler and quieter than I ever remember!

Make sure to have a can of air on hand to clear any dust clogging vents and fans.

If you don't have an SSD, consider switching to an SSD to lower the temperature further. Mechanical hard drives get pretty hot as well.

Your settings may be too intensive. Try to lower the resolution during gaming. You may also have too many programs running at once. Try closing some programs that are not being used at the moment.

Why do you think it's overheating? Is it shutting off? If not it's not overheating. Intel CPU's can withstand temps at or near 100C for extended periods with no issues. Post your temps here under load and lets see what's up .
