Why is my laptop overheating randonly?

Ok, I have a Lenovo Ideapad Y900 Gamers Laptop that was bought probably 4 months ago.

For the past couple weeks, my laptop would freeze... the mouse would still be active for a while but that would eventually freeze as well.

When it does freeze I would usually be gaming or working on Adobe or some memory heavy programs and the turbo button would be engaged. Between where the keyboard and screen meet would get extremely hot to the touch.

I know thats where the video card and heatsyncs are located inside the system.

I started to manually turn off the turbo when im working and gaming now and it would work fine for a bit longer but would still result in overheating eventually where again, the laptop would freeze while the cursor is still active, i can even type a bit, the wifi would cut out and would eventually totally freeze resulting in a hard shut down (holding the power button down for 5 seconds) and restarting again....

@nvidia all those symptoms seem to be heat related. Make sure that you have unobstructed airflow to your laptop and you could try a laptop cooling pad and see if it makes a difference. Ultimately, with it being a new computer and most likely still covered under warranty, I would contact Lenovo and have them take care of the issues.

Update (10/15/2017)

If you cannot get it fixed under any kind of warranty, I suggest that you download the maintenance manual from here and inspect your air inlets as well as your fan and heatsink.

I'm in Mexico... It was bought in the US and I'm not going back anytime soon....

So far i can't find anything based on this issue at all anywhere... one of my guys was suggesting redo the Thermal Compound

It could be the thermal compound but on a new machine like yours that is unlikely. I suspect obstructed airflow, maybe a clogged fan etc. Make sure that you use the laptop on a flat service and not anything that may cover the air inlet (pillows, blankets, etc.)
