Connect a sufficiently large external hard drive to your old computer and drag-and-drop (or copy-and-paste) all the files you need from your old computer onto the drive. Disconnect the drive from the old computer, connect it to the new computer, and move the files onto the new computer.

you can also use ethernet to connect the pc to the router and either use microsoft homegroup to transfer items. or use a flash drive and go through the same stems as a external hard drive, just check the total size of everything beforehand by putting everything into one file and then select the file and click properties.

@jeremys depending on what type your old drive is, just get an external enclosure for it. That will allow you to run it as a USB drive and you can copy the files the same way as you would from any other medium. If you can tell us the specs from the old drive like Make, Model etc. we can most likely find the right "adapter" enclosure for it.
