Why can't I hear the people who call my phone

They can't hear me at times . if have to put them on speaker to hear them. Please tell me how to fix this

Earpiece speaker could be bad or damaged, possibly clogged. Have you recently had the screen replaced or any repair done to the phone? Has it been exposed to liquid or any know moister damage?
