Can I replace the keyboard without replacing the top case?

I read through the instructions to replace the top case, but it's not clear what is involved in changing the keyboard. Can I replace the keyboard without replacing the top case, or is it better to replace them both at the same time?

It looks like I can get a new keyboard for about $20, versus $150 for the top case/keyboard combo.

I have successfully replaced the top case and keyboard on my PB G4, so I'm fairly comfortable with that degree of work.

Its not a separate piece, you cannot get a separate keyboard, The top case for mac books is one piece.
