Steam from stove causes microwave to stop working w/display lights lit
When we cook something that generates a lot of steam the microwave stops working. All the display lights come on and it says there is a short. If I unplug it and let it sit for a few hours it will start to work again.
Is this a good question?

Hmmm. That will be a good sign that you need to relocate the microwave I guess.

I think the answer is correct, but the design of our kitchen precludes relocating the microwave or raising it. It is currently 22 inches above the stove. Here is some additional information: the microwave worked four years without any problems and then this suddenly appeared. I was wondering if there was some kind of gasket inside that could be replaced to prevent moisture from getting into the keypad and electronics. We do have the microwave vented to the outside, but running the vent doesn't seem to help. The vent does draw off some steam, but it's always been a little wimpy.

Also, I was considering getting a stainless steel hood installed that would block the steam from getting to the MW and direct it to the vent, which is located at the center of the MW. The edges of the hood would need to be sealed to keep the steam away from where the keypad. Any thoughts on this? By the way, thanks to both of you for your input.
