Replaced main board and no picture just music playing

Sony XBR-65X900C

I replaced the main board on my TV and when it turns on there is no picture, just some soft music. I get the green to amber flashing light on the bottom remote control sensor on the TV. I tried putting a thumb drive with the latest update in the usb and still nothing after several hours.

Thanks For you help

Update (09/25/2017)

Lets start from the beginning, We were watching tv and switched the HDMI input to the one our apple tv was hooked to and watched that for a bit. We switched back to the cdmi that our Directv was hooked to and got a message on the sony home screen(something to the fact that had quit responding). We tried to select another input and this msg would just keep coming up. We then unplugged it and let it sit for about ten min then plugged back in, it came up with the "Sony" screen, then went black, and then went to a black screen with the light around the edge. Couldn't get any buttons to work now. We then unplugged and let sit overnight and plugged back in in the morning with the same results. I called Sony, no help there, then called Best Buy talked with Geek Squad member and he advised me that is was prob a main board(BTW Tv is only 16 months old). So I found a main board on eBay part # A-2072-588A , the main board part# that came out of tv was a A-2072-588B.

Update (09/25/2017)

Now I have a black screen no "Sony" booting up, led is flashing between amber and green, and just some soft music. I can cycle it on and off with the power button now and it will just go to the white led but still no picture.

Thanks in advance

I'm having a similar issue with my Sony Bravia XBR-65X850D. My HDMI inputs stopped working after a power surge, so I bought a replacement main board. After installing the new board, the indicator light flashes green and amber for maybe 0.5 seconds each. It will do this indefinitely until I press the power button on the remote, which turns the light white (no other changes in behavior… still no picture or backlight). I know I need to update the firmware since it's a new board, but I can't do so without any display. I know none of the other components are faulty, as reinstalling the old board restores all functionality. Is this simply a faulty replacement? Or is there some step I've completely missed?

I’m having the same exact issue ! On a 850c. Same symptoms after replacing the main board. Did you find a solution to fix it ?

by

I have the same issue, 850e, replace power supply and main board too... white light and but no picture... smh!!!

by

Any further information on this as I am in the same boat?

I ended up finding out it’s a bad board. I called for a RMA and the new board arrived. Once I replaced the new board I was able to get some lights to flash which was white and green. I pluggedin the a USB with the latest firmware downloaded from the sony site and it took about 30 mins for the update to take place and a few restarts.

It restarted into the Welcome screen and everything started working perfectly afterwards.

When you say bad board are you referring to a bad main board?

I ordered a main board from ebay. It arrived, I installed it and had the green/amber flashing lights, soft music and no picture. I returned the main board and have ordered another one. My fingers are crossed that the second "new" one works. I have the software on a flash drive ready to go.

What happened after ? I have the same issue, I got a main board from a working but broken screen tv.

by

Phil which board did you replace to get it to work?

by

Sorry I had no idea people were commenting on my post. I ordered the input output board. It requires a firmware update if you replace it.

@tweed6 let us know if that LED blinks with any sequence. When you say you changed the main board are you referring to the Main board (all the inputs are on this board) or the Power board. Since you have sound but no picture it could be the power board not turning on the backlight or a failed T-con board. Post some images of all of your boards with your question so that we can see what you see. Use this guide Adding images to an existing question for that. the T-con board should have a use on it as well as the fuses on the power board need to be checked for continuity.

I just fixed an XBR-75X850C that the initial problem was programs would freeze for a couple seconds. These periods got longer the more the tv was in use. Also the Ethernet port stopped working. I changed out the main board, A-207-256-4C. After replacing the board I got black screen and spa music which is normal. Amber and green lights started flashing implying a software update was needed as expected. I then downloaded the latest software from Sony support site 6.827. Extracted zip to my usb stick (16GB). I unplugged the tv, installed the usb stick and then plugged back in. Amber and Green lights flashed and then white light flashed, then pulsing white light. Then tv powered off and on a couple times and then LED went solid Green. TV shut off. I powered it on and screen is black and led stuck green still. On another reboot it stayed red. After lots of failed attempts found article that said to change the sony_dtv0FA50A09A0A9_00014300_1aab0105.pkg file name to update_loader.pkg on the usb drive. I did this, then unplugged tv, held power off for 45 sec to clear cache. Then plugged in tv and turned on via remote. Amber and green lights started, then moved into white light and then pulsing white light and then a blue light. This did a couple sequences like this and then the tv screen powered on and said update complete remove USB. I clicked ok after removing usb stick and Android operating system booted as normal and tv is now fully functional again. I suspect a lot of folks here are having the same issue as the update seems like it’s working but it really isn’t.

Hey guys sorry been out of touch for a while. So if your getting green or amber lights and still just spa music. Make sure your USB stick is no bigger than 32 GB, Sony is very particular about that. And yes make sure it's formatted in fat32 before you copy over the firmware. Also you must update the filename as stated above it will not work if that name is not exact and it's case sensitive. Once you have your USB stick ready unplug the TV and then hold the power button on the back of the TV down for at least 45 sec to clear the cache and start fresh. Then plug the USB in, then the power cord. Then turn the TV on using your Sony remote power button. That should trigger the software update which can take up to an hour depending on your model. You should see it cycle through a white and blue light if the software update is working. Amber and green mean your firmware update did not trigger.

I just went through this and was able to resolve it with the help of everyone's input here so I thought I should share my experience in case someone else needs the assist.

My issue boiled down to a bad update that bricked my TV which is a Sony FW-65BZ35F. This is what happened with me... I was watching TV and, all of the sudden, the picture turned into a rainbow of vertical lines all across the screen. Sound was still coming out but the picture never came back. Once I was able to power it down, it wouldn't power back up. I figured it was a bad power supply. I was able to pick one up from eBay. Installed it, no dice. I decided to pick up the main board from eBay as well. Once I installed that, I experienced what everyone did here with the spa music and no display. I followed Utah's instructions but I kept hitting the amber and green light issue and couldn't get past it. Then it occurred to me that I was trying to reflash the latest firmware build (6.7220) which probably caused the issue to begin with so, I went with the previous build of 6.7210 which did the trick. Everything is now working as it should. Lessons learned from this - Disable automatic updates and, since I do not use the native smart TV capabilities, I didn't even bother to connect it to WIFI this go around since I primarily use it with my firestick. I also have the 85" version of this TV. I immediately disabled automatic updates and disconnected it from WIFI as well.

Hope this helps someone down the road.

I just read your blog. I am an 81 y/o grandmother with my 77 y/o husband who knows a little--I know nothing. He just wants to go buy a new tv, but I am so mad. Our tv is 3 years a 4 months old and our screen went black 2 weeks go and the red light flashed 6 times and repeated. We researched that and nothing worked. I called Best Buy because I just bought their Total warranty which isn't worth it for what I have. First then sent out a wrong guy and then a week later had the tech call me and said he wasn't going to come today because it needed a whole new 65" screen and they don't carry one. Sony sells a product through BB and then can't servce it??? So we started doing some more turn off, wait, turn on and etc. Finally after 2 weeks of no tv we got the spa music this morning, but othing else. If, you can't get a picture at all and only music, how can we "disable automatic updates"? Do you have any ideas for us.??? Please help!!

@johntaylor90733 I do hope we can help you. First, we need to find out what exact make and model your TV is.
