Nano 5th gen Broken Glass

I am replacing my front glass on my 5th gen nano, the glass is broken from being dropped. do i have to do the first few step in the step by step repair guide since the glass is already broken?

I would most certainly follow the steps as outlined in the guide. Trust me, it is a lot easier since the glass is somewhat of a bear to remove. It also almost guarantees that it goes back together again. But of course there are always shortcuts and different ways to accomplish this task. I personally am just more comfortable following the guides. Good Luck
