My piano sustains when my pedal is not plugged in.

so when I plug in the sustain pedal it starts holding sustain no matter if I push on the pedal or switch the polarities, and if I turn it off with the pedal plugged in it and turn it back on and pull out the pedal it sustains when the pedal is not plugged in.
