starts with standard error start up options. (ie. start norm, safe mode.....). whatever i choose brings me to a solo window asking for a startup password. how do i get rid of it? this has just happened randomly after getting a new battery.

You may need to remove the drive and using a drive caddy see if you can access it from another system. That's only if you need to backup data. Once you back up the data, then I'd reinstall the OS.

If you don't need data backup, you should just try to reinstall the OS.

You might spend hours upon hours trying to fix this, but if you are okay with losing your data or backing it up....you might be better off just re-installing the OS in the long run.

Good Luck!
