How can I fix a Recurring Err 01

Using my 75-300mm lens I keep getting an Err 01 . Previously activating the 'sensor cleaning' on the menu has cleared the error. But the error keeps recurring. I have manually cleaned the contacts on the lens. The error does not occur with any other lens.
