Replacing Magsafe 1 cable with Magsafe 2 cable

My MacBook Pro Retina 13'' charger gone bad. One of my friend have an old magsafe 1 charger (85W). I also have a spare magsafe 2 cable. Since the magsafe 1 wire won't fit the magsafe 2 slot, I was thinking to replace the old charger's magsafe 1 cable with spare magsafe 2 cable. Will it work for my MacBook?

Sure it will, the only difference between the two is the connector. You could find adapters too if you prefer.

Thanks Arbaman. I just finished replacing the cable. Opening and closing the adapter was bit tricky but easy. The adapter is working fine after replacing the cable. I am able to charge my MacBook Pro retina 13''.

Here's the adapter: MagSafe to MagSafe 2 Converter

I wound't try splicing the cable as you'll make more of a mess than the adapter.

Thanks Dan. The MagSafe to MagSafe 2 adapter is not available in India. It is out of stock both at online stores and local market. So the only way to get it working is by replacing the cables. I was able to replace the cable and charger is working fine now.
