Camera not appearing in Skype

Hi,

The other day my son contacted us for a Skype, he could hear us but not see us, we could see and hear him.

I went into the Skype video settings and Skype could not find a web cam. The laptop is running Windows 8.1. Any ideas as to what I can do?
