Why the amount of RAM i's not full usable?

It has 12 GB RAM but in Windows 7 ultimate it says that 3.17 GB is usable,

Also in task manager is not showing 12 GB physical memory it's totally 3251 MB. Is it Windows's problem or others? What is the problem?

Thank you

You likely are using a 32-bit version of Windows 7. 32-bit operating systems have a limit of only being able to see 3gb of RAM.

You need to switch to a 64-bit version of Windows.

Hey SW well said.

Please note maximum memory that a 32 bit operating system can utilize is 4 GB total, in this case i think the system can only see 3170 MB because the system has dedicated 830 megabyte to the display adapter.

@johanbotha I don't think thats entirely correct. I doubt 830MB is a proper reservation amount. You are right, video memory is reserved, but 830MB is not a typical (factor of 8 or 16) amount.
