iPod touch turns itself off randomly

Ipod touch will turn itself, usually while running apps, and will not turn back on until it's plugged into a charger. Once plugged in, it takes an unusual amount of time to boot. Once booted, it shows a full charge on the battery but all of the settings (i.e. date, time etc) have returned to default as if the battery had died. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sheatwole03,

We will need to know which generation this is. I am 99% sure that what you have is a bad battery. This happened to one of my Ipod 5th gen video's after it was only 2 years old. Order a new OEM battery and follow the ifixit guide to install it or if you aren't into fixing it yourself and have good soldering skills you should have it installed professionally.
