@erlendodegard,Erlend, Your chevy would have a timing chain. Some chains never need changed unless they exhibit chain noise(conspicuous on a cold engine and does not completely go away when engine warm). If timing check showed that the engine timing was being thrown off by the slack/wear in the chain, more then 5 degrees slack would indicate wear and time to change. Links below will supply more info.
