Error 6 fix?

I've been trying to reinstall iOS 4.2.1 on my old 3G iPhone, but it throws back error 9 or 6 every time. I've already tried most of the common solutions. Can anybody offer any assistance? Thanks!

Update (06/17/2017)

I also forgot, it's stuck in DFU mode, and the iOS was corrupted when I got it.

Yes, and I was doing it wrong anyway. :) I downloaded the actual program, and it fails at 13% saying invalid serial number.

This tool is very useful~ And about invaild serial number, you can try to enter your device to DFU mode and flash again.

Your device is stuck on DFU, you can exit that with 3uTools.

With the serial number issue, it refuses to flash. It's also stuck in a somewhat damaged DFU mode, so the only way I can get it to even begin the process is by cheating with iTunes and unplugging it once it reenters recovery mode. I'm honestly a little stumped on this.

If serial number issue issue still exists, there may be hardware issue. You are suggested to get a repairman to check your device.
