Trans mission quit engaging it a rebulit transmission 2003 dodge 2500gas

So I bought this 2500 10v 8.0 dodge 2003 gas. Friend just put a rebuilt transmission in it he couldn't get it to run so I took it and got it to run by just adjusting the linkage on transfer case. Drove it for a day no problems. Got up the next day and took off and the pro blems came. It won't even find a gear nowhere 4x4 nothing. Now I unhooked the battery the night before when I hooked the battery back up I noticed the 4x4 light indicator was now present and wasnt before. That's the only thing different . fluids are full, linkages are inline ,tv and shifter are correct. Any suggestions? Besides removing the transmission !
